Weekly Update, November 5th

Hello Wonderful Families, I hope everyone is enjoying their weekend!  Just a few updates for the week:

November Poems went home last week.  Please make sure students are practicing at home.  Students need to be ready to recite their poems the week of November 26th.

We have started our Magic Tree House book study in class.  Each student was able to select a Magic Tree House book that they will be reading in class.  We will be completing some fun book study projects.  You will be invited to class to see all of our hard work the first week of December!

I am so happy to announce that every single student in our class reached their first trimester AR goal!!!  I will be meeting with students on Monday to discuss their 1st trimester success, and set a new goal for 2nd trimester.

If you have not already signed up for a conference slot on ParentSquare , please do so at your earliest convenience. It is mandatory that I meet with each family to discuss your student’s progress.

This week in Math:
Topic 6: Subtract within 100
·        Topic 6 Assessment
·        End of Year Math Assessment
·        ADAM Math assessment
·        Topic 7 pretest


This week in Language Arts:
Reading: Non Fiction text features
Grammar: Reflexive Pronouns
Spelling: (plurals) benches, cherries, classes, crutches, families, foxes, homes, noses, parties, puppies
Vocabulary:
·        Award: a prize
·        Bare: basic and simple
·        Core: middle
·        Mention: to say quickly
·        Warn: to tell someone a problem


Writing: Opinion writing – What is an Opinion, generating ideas

This week in Leadership and Science:
Leadership: ROAR Characteristics  O: Own your actions

Homework: The "Find the Evidence" sheet will come home Monday and is due Friday.  Please make sure that Reading Logs are completed daily. There will be NO MATH HOMEWORK this week due to assessments.

The Disguise your Turkey assignment that came home last week will be due next Wednesday, November 14th.

Hello Wonderful Families, A BIG thank you to those that have sent in money for our "Change for Change" campaign for Ghana. The campaign will run throughout the year so keep sending in change! Our next round of change will be collected this Wednesday, October 30th, so if you’ve been saving up at home, please send it in! ​ ​We will begin reciting our poems in class starting this Monday, October 28th.  The end of the first trimester is rapidly approaching!  We will be finishing up our end of trimester assessments this week, so there will be NO HOMEWORK!! Update November 18th

Hello Wonderful Families, Thank you so much to everyone that made it out for our Magic Tree House Book Club on Friday, I truly appreciate you taking time out of your day to let our kiddos share their work with you! Our Turkey in Disguise Project is due this Tuesday, November 19th! November Poems will also be recited this week, so make sure students are ready starting Tuesday, November 19th. Please remember that there is NO SCHOOL for students this Monday, November 18th for Parent Teacher Conferences.  I look forward to seeing you and sharing your child’s progress so far this year! Our Thanksgiving Feast will take place on Thursday, November 21st at 12:30 pm.  A parent square message was sent out last week asking for donations and volunteers, so if you are looking to help out, check that post for details.  We will be having a Movie Day this Friday in class.  We will be watching the PG rated movie Freebirds. Update October 1st

Hello Wonderful Families, I hope everyone is enjoying their weekend!  Just a few updates for the week: If you haven't already, please make sure to sign and send in your kiddos permission slip for our field trip on the 19th. I will be notifying chaperones that have been chosen at the end of this week. Thank you all so so much for all of your book orders.  The book order should be delivered this week!  I was able to purchase over 20 new books for our classroom library!  BSC AR INCENTIVE PROGRAM BSC just launched our first ever school-wide incentive program for Accelerated Reader. Each month the second grade class with the most points will be awarded a trophy to be displayed in their class for the entire month.  In addition, the top reader (student with the most points at the end of the month) will be recognized at our monthly ROAR Rally, have his or her picture posted on our Rockin' Reader Bulletin Board, and will be mentioned in our monthly ...
