Weekly Update - November 26th

Hello Wonderful Families, just a few updates for the week we return to school.

Please make sure your kiddo is practicing their November Poem this week while they are off of school.  Poem presentations will start Monday, November 26th.

Book order forms went home 2 weeks ago.  I will be placing an order this Sunday, November 17th.  I will also be placing an order the first week of December to make sure all orders arrive before Christmas.  If you are wanting to order books as Christmas gifts, please just let me know, and I am happy to keep books hidden from your kiddos.

Friday, November 30th will be our Magic Treehouse book presentations.  Parents are invited to come to our classroom at 12:45pm to have cookies, hot cocoa, and see the fun book reports we have been working on.

AR Progress:  Our new AR goals have been set.  To monitor students’ progress towards their goal, you can use the AR home connect link to the left.


This week in Math:
Topic 7: Solving Problems using Addition and Subtraction

This week in Language Arts:
Reading: Historical Events, Key Details, Text Features, Poetry Structure, Ask Questions
Grammar: Contractions
Spelling: (contractions) aren’t, can’t, couldn’t, doesn’t, haven’t, I’ll, there’s, we’ll, who’s, wasn’t
Vocabulary:
·        pale: light in color
·        skill: ability to do something well
·        weak: not strong
·        avoid: to stay away from
·        arrive: to get to a place

Writing: Opinion- Generating Ideas, setting goals, supporting opinions with reasons

This week in Leadership and Science:
Leadership: ROAR Characteristics  A: Act Safely


Homework: A close read will come home on Monday and will be due on Friday.  Please make sure that Math worksheets and 20 minutes of reading are completed daily.

Hello Wonderful Families, A BIG thank you to those that have sent in money for our "Change for Change" campaign for Ghana. The campaign will run throughout the year so keep sending in change! Our next round of change will be collected this Wednesday, October 30th, so if you’ve been saving up at home, please send it in! ​ ​We will begin reciting our poems in class starting this Monday, October 28th.  The end of the first trimester is rapidly approaching!  We will be finishing up our end of trimester assessments this week, so there will be NO HOMEWORK!! Update November 18th

Hello Wonderful Families, Thank you so much to everyone that made it out for our Magic Tree House Book Club on Friday, I truly appreciate you taking time out of your day to let our kiddos share their work with you! Our Turkey in Disguise Project is due this Tuesday, November 19th! November Poems will also be recited this week, so make sure students are ready starting Tuesday, November 19th. Please remember that there is NO SCHOOL for students this Monday, November 18th for Parent Teacher Conferences.  I look forward to seeing you and sharing your child’s progress so far this year! Our Thanksgiving Feast will take place on Thursday, November 21st at 12:30 pm.  A parent square message was sent out last week asking for donations and volunteers, so if you are looking to help out, check that post for details.  We will be having a Movie Day this Friday in class.  We will be watching the PG rated movie Freebirds. Update October 1st

Hello Wonderful Families, I hope everyone is enjoying their weekend!  Just a few updates for the week: If you haven't already, please make sure to sign and send in your kiddos permission slip for our field trip on the 19th. I will be notifying chaperones that have been chosen at the end of this week. Thank you all so so much for all of your book orders.  The book order should be delivered this week!  I was able to purchase over 20 new books for our classroom library!  BSC AR INCENTIVE PROGRAM BSC just launched our first ever school-wide incentive program for Accelerated Reader. Each month the second grade class with the most points will be awarded a trophy to be displayed in their class for the entire month.  In addition, the top reader (student with the most points at the end of the month) will be recognized at our monthly ROAR Rally, have his or her picture posted on our Rockin' Reader Bulletin Board, and will be mentioned in our monthly ...
