Weekly Update October 15th

Hello Wonderful Families, I hope everyone is enjoying their weekend!  Just a few updates for the week:

This Friday, October 19th will be our field trip to see School House Rock at the Lewis Family Playhouse in Rancho Cucamonga.  Our bus will be leaving school at 8am sharp, so please make sure students arrive to school by 7:45am and report directly to their classrooms.  Chaperones may follow the bus or meet us at the entrance of the theater when we arrive. Please pack your kiddo a snack. We will be back to school in time for lunch and electives so kids that stay can pack accordingly. This Friday is pajama day, but please do not send students to school in their PJ’s on this day.  Please have students wear their Sunday’s Best for the theater.

This week will be spirit week.  Kiddos that choose not to dress up with the theme of the day, must still follow our Dress for Success dress code policy.  The themes for each day are as follows:
·         Monday-  Color Splash (go crazy with color)
·         Tuesday-  Tourist Day
·         Wednesday – Wacky Wednesday (go crazy with mismatched colors and patterns)
·         Thursday- Throwback Thursday (dress as your favorite decade)
·         Friday- Please dress in your Sunday’s best for our field trip.

AR Progress:  The last day for students to take AR quizzes this trimester is Friday, November 2nd.  If your student has not made their goal yet, please continue to make sure that they are reading 20 minutes every single night.

Conference sign-ups will be done entirely on Parent Square.  Sign-ups will be posted this Friday, October 19th at 3pm.  Conferences will be from 8am-4pm on Tuesday, November 13th.

This week in Math:
Topic 5: Subtract within 100 using strategies
·         Unit 5 assessments
          Unit 6 pretest

This week in Language Arts:
Reading: main idea, text features, story structure, character traits
Grammar: Collective Nouns
Spelling: (r controlled) birch, burst, clerk, herd, nerve, purple, return, third, verse, urge
Vocabulary: Unit 1 review
Writing: Personal Narrative – dialogue, adding details, revising word choice,

This week in Leadership and Science:
Leadership: ROAR Characteristics  O: Own your actions
Science:  quick land changes

Homework: The "Find the Evidence" sheet will come home Monday and is due Friday.  Please make sure that the math worksheet and Reading Log are completed daily. There will be NO MATH HOMEWORK Tuesday-Friday due to testing and our field trip.

Hello Wonderful Families, A BIG thank you to those that have sent in money for our "Change for Change" campaign for Ghana. The campaign will run throughout the year so keep sending in change! Our next round of change will be collected this Wednesday, October 30th, so if you’ve been saving up at home, please send it in! ​ ​We will begin reciting our poems in class starting this Monday, October 28th.  The end of the first trimester is rapidly approaching!  We will be finishing up our end of trimester assessments this week, so there will be NO HOMEWORK!! Update November 18th

Hello Wonderful Families, Thank you so much to everyone that made it out for our Magic Tree House Book Club on Friday, I truly appreciate you taking time out of your day to let our kiddos share their work with you! Our Turkey in Disguise Project is due this Tuesday, November 19th! November Poems will also be recited this week, so make sure students are ready starting Tuesday, November 19th. Please remember that there is NO SCHOOL for students this Monday, November 18th for Parent Teacher Conferences.  I look forward to seeing you and sharing your child’s progress so far this year! Our Thanksgiving Feast will take place on Thursday, November 21st at 12:30 pm.  A parent square message was sent out last week asking for donations and volunteers, so if you are looking to help out, check that post for details.  We will be having a Movie Day this Friday in class.  We will be watching the PG rated movie Freebirds. Update October 1st

Hello Wonderful Families, I hope everyone is enjoying their weekend!  Just a few updates for the week: If you haven't already, please make sure to sign and send in your kiddos permission slip for our field trip on the 19th. I will be notifying chaperones that have been chosen at the end of this week. Thank you all so so much for all of your book orders.  The book order should be delivered this week!  I was able to purchase over 20 new books for our classroom library!  BSC AR INCENTIVE PROGRAM BSC just launched our first ever school-wide incentive program for Accelerated Reader. Each month the second grade class with the most points will be awarded a trophy to be displayed in their class for the entire month.  In addition, the top reader (student with the most points at the end of the month) will be recognized at our monthly ROAR Rally, have his or her picture posted on our Rockin' Reader Bulletin Board, and will be mentioned in our monthly ...
