Update January 8th

Hello Wonderful Families, I hope everyone has enjoyed their 2 weeks off!  I’m looking forward to seeing all of your kiddos smiling faces on Tuesday morning!
I want to take a second to say THANK YOU again for the generous gifts I received before Christmas Break.  Every gift, card, note, and goodie was appreciated more than you know!
In case you haven’t already heard, our class won the trophy for earning the most AR points in 2nd grade for the second month in a row!  The points are recalculated every month, so please make sure your kiddos are reading every night as part of their homework. If your child finished any books over our holiday break, have them write down the titles so they can quiz on them when we return on Tuesday.

Vocabulary:
  • Island: a piece of land surrounded by water
  • Corners: to force into a place
  • Flooded: to cover with water
  • Parade: a group of people or vehicles moving together
  • Search: to look for
Writing: Opinion Writing
This week in Leadership and Science:
Leadership: New Year’s Resolutions
Science: States of Matter
Homework: Our homework schedule will return to normal for the most part this week.  “Find the Evidence” will go home Tuesday and must be returned by Friday. Math worksheets and reading logs need to be completed nightly.

Hello Wonderful Families, A BIG thank you to those that have sent in money for our "Change for Change" campaign for Ghana. The campaign will run throughout the year so keep sending in change! Our next round of change will be collected this Wednesday, October 30th, so if you’ve been saving up at home, please send it in! ​ ​We will begin reciting our poems in class starting this Monday, October 28th.  The end of the first trimester is rapidly approaching!  We will be finishing up our end of trimester assessments this week, so there will be NO HOMEWORK!! Hello Wonderful Families, Thank you so much to everyone that made it out for our Magic Tree House Book Club on Friday, I truly appreciate you taking time out of your day to let our kiddos share their work with you! Our Turkey in Disguise Project is due this Tuesday, November 19th! November Poems will also be recited this week, so make sure students are ready starting Tuesday, November 19th. Please remember that there is NO SCHOOL for students this Monday, November 18th for Parent Teacher Conferences.  I look forward to seeing you and sharing your child’s progress so far this year! Our Thanksgiving Feast will take place on Thursday, November 21st at 12:30 pm.  A parent square message was sent out last week asking for donations and volunteers, so if you are looking to help out, check that post for details.  We will be having a Movie Day this Friday in class.  We will be watching the PG rated movie Freebirds. Hello Wonderful Families, I hope everyone is enjoying their weekend!  Just a few updates for the week: If you haven't already, please make sure to sign and send in your kiddos permission slip for our field trip on the 19th. I will be notifying chaperones that have been chosen at the end of this week. Thank you all so so much for all of your book orders.  The book order should be delivered this week!  I was able to purchase over 20 new books for our classroom library!  BSC AR INCENTIVE PROGRAM BSC just launched our first ever school-wide incentive program for Accelerated Reader. Each month the second grade class with the most points will be awarded a trophy to be displayed in their class for the entire month.  In addition, the top reader (student with the most points at the end of the month) will be recognized at our monthly ROAR Rally, have his or her picture posted on our Rockin' Reader Bulletin Board, and will be mentioned in our monthly ...
