Update January 28th

Hello Wonderful Families,
We will be reciting our January Poems this week during our center time.  I choose students at random, so please make sure they are ready in case they are called starting Monday.
Tuesday afternoon we will be celebrating the 102nd day of school with some fun dalmatian themed STEM activities.  Students are encouraged to dress in black and white polka dots, but it is not mandatory. I’m looking forward to celebrating being 102 days smarter!
The last day to take AR quizzes for this trimester will be February 28th. Remember you can always check in on your child’s AR progress by clicking on the Renaissance link on the left side of this page.
Just a few updates for the coming week:
This week in Math:
Topic 9 Numbers to 1,000
  • Name Place Values
  • Read and Write 3 digit numbers
  • Different ways to name the same number
  • Place value patterns with numbers
  • Skip counting by 5’s,10’s, and 100’s
This week in Language Arts:
Reading: Compare and Contrast stories, conclusions, main topic, ask questions and understand key details, describe how reasons support author’s points
Grammar: Linking Verbs
Spelling: -le endings: cattle, ankle, jumble, startle, whistle, middle, noble, gobble, title, sparkle
Vocabulary:
  • reflect: to think about
  • soiled: make dirty
  • accident: an event that you don’t mean to cause
  • base: the lowest part of something
  • cheer:to shout for joy
Writing: Opinion Writing
  • Organizing writing into paragraphs
  • Topic and concluding sentences
  • Word choice
This week in Leadership and Science:
Leadership: Kindness journals
Science: States of Matter - Chemical changes
Homework: “Find the Evidence” will go home on Monday  and must be returned by Friday. Math worksheets and reading logs need to be completed nightly.

Hello Wonderful Families, A BIG thank you to those that have sent in money for our "Change for Change" campaign for Ghana. The campaign will run throughout the year so keep sending in change! Our next round of change will be collected this Wednesday, October 30th, so if you’ve been saving up at home, please send it in! ​ ​We will begin reciting our poems in class starting this Monday, October 28th.  The end of the first trimester is rapidly approaching!  We will be finishing up our end of trimester assessments this week, so there will be NO HOMEWORK!! Hello Wonderful Families, Thank you so much to everyone that made it out for our Magic Tree House Book Club on Friday, I truly appreciate you taking time out of your day to let our kiddos share their work with you! Our Turkey in Disguise Project is due this Tuesday, November 19th! November Poems will also be recited this week, so make sure students are ready starting Tuesday, November 19th. Please remember that there is NO SCHOOL for students this Monday, November 18th for Parent Teacher Conferences.  I look forward to seeing you and sharing your child’s progress so far this year! Our Thanksgiving Feast will take place on Thursday, November 21st at 12:30 pm.  A parent square message was sent out last week asking for donations and volunteers, so if you are looking to help out, check that post for details.  We will be having a Movie Day this Friday in class.  We will be watching the PG rated movie Freebirds. Update October 1st

Hello Wonderful Families, I hope everyone is enjoying their weekend!  Just a few updates for the week: If you haven't already, please make sure to sign and send in your kiddos permission slip for our field trip on the 19th. I will be notifying chaperones that have been chosen at the end of this week. Thank you all so so much for all of your book orders.  The book order should be delivered this week!  I was able to purchase over 20 new books for our classroom library!  BSC AR INCENTIVE PROGRAM BSC just launched our first ever school-wide incentive program for Accelerated Reader. Each month the second grade class with the most points will be awarded a trophy to be displayed in their class for the entire month.  In addition, the top reader (student with the most points at the end of the month) will be recognized at our monthly ROAR Rally, have his or her picture posted on our Rockin' Reader Bulletin Board, and will be mentioned in our monthly ...
