Update December 10th

Hello Wonderful Families, I hope everyone is enjoying their weekend!  Just a few updates for the week:
Grandparent’s Day will be this Monday, December 10th at 8:15 am.  Grandparents will meet in the Cub’s Den and watch 1st and 2nd grade perform their holiday songs, then can join us for a small craft in our classroom after.  Grandparents will be released around 9am.
Our Holiday performance will take place this Monday evening at 5:00pm at Active Church on Bryant St. in Yucaipa.  Students are asked to arrive no later than 4:45 so we can get everyone lined up and ready. First grade will perform at 5:00pm with Second grade performing immediately after.
Student’s drew names for their Secret Santa in class last week.  Students are being asked to purchase a gift ($10 limit please) and bring it to class wrapped by Wednesday, December 19th.  We will exchange gifts on Thursday, December 20th. This activity is in no way meant to create a hardship for anybody. If buying a gift is not something that you can do at this time, please let me know and I would be happy to help.  I want to make sure no kiddos are left out of the fun!

This week in Language Arts:
Reading: Key details, details to identify topic, author’s purpose, use illustrations to understand, story structure/ sequence

Spelling: (long e) city, cheap, pretty, weep, speech, maybe, teach, story, feast, happy
Vocabulary:
·        annoy: to make someone angry
·        edit: to correct
·        opinion: what you think
·        curious: wanting to learn something
·        poke: to jab with a finger


Writing: Friendly letters
Opinion Writing
This week in Leadership and Science:
Leadership: ROAR Characteristics  O: Own your actions
Science: Slow land changes
Homework: The "Find the Evidence" sheet will come home Monday and is due Friday.  Please make sure that Reading Logs and Math sheets are completed daily.

Hello Wonderful Families, A BIG thank you to those that have sent in money for our "Change for Change" campaign for Ghana. The campaign will run throughout the year so keep sending in change! Our next round of change will be collected this Wednesday, October 30th, so if you’ve been saving up at home, please send it in! ​ ​We will begin reciting our poems in class starting this Monday, October 28th.  The end of the first trimester is rapidly approaching!  We will be finishing up our end of trimester assessments this week, so there will be NO HOMEWORK!! Hello Wonderful Families, Thank you so much to everyone that made it out for our Magic Tree House Book Club on Friday, I truly appreciate you taking time out of your day to let our kiddos share their work with you! Our Turkey in Disguise Project is due this Tuesday, November 19th! November Poems will also be recited this week, so make sure students are ready starting Tuesday, November 19th. Please remember that there is NO SCHOOL for students this Monday, November 18th for Parent Teacher Conferences.  I look forward to seeing you and sharing your child’s progress so far this year! Our Thanksgiving Feast will take place on Thursday, November 21st at 12:30 pm.  A parent square message was sent out last week asking for donations and volunteers, so if you are looking to help out, check that post for details.  We will be having a Movie Day this Friday in class.  We will be watching the PG rated movie Freebirds. Hello Wonderful Families, I hope everyone is enjoying their weekend!  Just a few updates for the week: If you haven't already, please make sure to sign and send in your kiddos permission slip for our field trip on the 19th. I will be notifying chaperones that have been chosen at the end of this week. Thank you all so so much for all of your book orders.  The book order should be delivered this week!  I was able to purchase over 20 new books for our classroom library!  BSC AR INCENTIVE PROGRAM BSC just launched our first ever school-wide incentive program for Accelerated Reader. Each month the second grade class with the most points will be awarded a trophy to be displayed in their class for the entire month.  In addition, the top reader (student with the most points at the end of the month) will be recognized at our monthly ROAR Rally, have his or her picture posted on our Rockin' Reader Bulletin Board, and will be mentioned in our monthly ...
